Quantum Dots

Quantum dots (QDs) used for color conversion re-emit lower frequency light colors in strict relationship to their size or chemistry. They are used in TVs to alter wide spectrum, blue-heavy LED backlighting into narrow-spectrum red, blue, and green light to produce a wider range of color along with more accurate colors.

Display makers are also developing electrically stimulated QD displays, but these are not yet commercialized.
